The Ten Commandments of Christmas

Last Sunday in church, leaflets with the following 'Christmas Ten Commandments' were handed out and the parish priest Fr. Joe Andrews discussed them with the congregation.  
  1. You shall not leave 'Christ' out of Christmas, making it 'Xmas'. Christ is the reason for the season.
  2. You shall prepare your soul for Christmas. Spend not so much on gifts that your soul is forgotten (a good confession is a nice way to prepare your hear for Christmas)
  3. You shall not let Santa Claus replace Christ, thus robbing the day of its spiritual reality. (Prepare yourself with prayer and the Word of God.)
  4. You shall not neglect your church. Its services highlight the true meaning of the season. 
  5. You shall not neglect the needy. Share they blessings with the many who will go hungry and cold unless you are generous.
  6. You shall not neglect thy family during this season. You shall not forget the elderly and those who are lonely at Christmas time.
  7. You shall not value gifts received by their cost. Even the least expensive may signify love, and that is more priceless than silver and gold. You shall give yourself with your gift. This will increase its value a hundred fold, and he who receives it shall treasure it forever.
  8. You shall prepare your home with Christmas symbols (the crib, Christmas carols, the Advent wreath, the star, the angels, the Christmas tree, etc.)
  9. You shall be as a little child. Not until you have become in spirit as a little one are you ready to enter into the kingdom of Heaven.
  10. You shall give your heart to Christ. Let Him be at the top of your Christmas list.
This is exactly how Christmas should be, the real meaning of Christmas can be found in traditional carols, where you hear of herald angels proclaiming the good news, the three wise men travelling from afar guided by a star, and the shepherds walking to see the King of Creation who was born in a stable, wrapped in swaddling clothes and placed in a manger. I love these soul stirring carols... they resound with peace, joy, hope and triumph. This carol by Scotty McCreery is one such song and he performs it beautifully.

Amethyst in Chennai - A Review

After Sarangi , we stopped by Amethyst another boutique store at Whites Road (quite close to Express Avenue Mall), Royapettah. This is a cool posh place hidden from the bustling din of the main road, and the entry way itself seems to transport you to another time and place far away from the cacophony of a busy city life. Once you step into this land overflowing with (wild) shrubbery, you'll find a flower shop, a jewellery cum clothing store and a colonial styled coffee hangout place. The entrance... with shrubs on either side. A giant urn among the shrubbery.  A little fountain in the garden... The jewellery and clothing boutique is located upstairs and even though the whole arrangement looks nice and inviting, I couldn't really find anything worth buying here.   An art piece at the store... The clothes seemed drab and messily complicated, like some new age fashion for the artsy / socialite types. It's not something your normal next door perso...

Raining on a Sunday.....

Last Sunday was beautiful, it was pouring the entire day and we couldn't go out anywhere, though we did go to church, and came back soaking wet. We (Tonio, his cousins and me) decided to spend the evening baking a cake. This is the nut cake and the strawberry cake we baked. I was actually surprised the nut cake came out well, cause I made it without a recipe. I had to give it away to people though, cause Tonio doesn't like nuts and I didn't want to eat the whole thing and put on weight. I can't wait to go back home and start baking again for Christmas. P.S: The baking utensils I am using here were given to me by Judith Aunty for my wedding and I love them. On an unrelated note, I read this in the paper today. "Dhoni has reassured us that he is no Samson and that locks or no locks he can still plunder runs". He does look even more dashing with his new haircut.... doesn't he?
