Less ability does not make a lesser human being

Went to Central Institute on Mental Retardation, Trivandrum yesterday and saw these older students performing a classical dance and playing the sitar. It was amazingly synchronous and so beautiful, everybody was blown away. One of the kids (name's Arun) playing the Sitar, is non verbal and he can't hear. He learnt the sitar through observation of the hand movement.They played 'Raghupati Ravan Raja ram' and another church song, it was one of the most amazing moments ever.
Visited the vocational units too and saw the children learning all sorts of vocational activity like tailoring, book binding, making files, craft unit, chalk candle and soap unit.... many other things. They made this cup up here out of coconut shell, how neat is that....
Through dedicated and patient training anythin is possible.....

hey have you seen that Oprah episode about the guys without legs who were cyclist and runner? It was awesome. What about that kid with no limbs? There was also this one with the Kennedy sister who started the special olympics and works with the disabled. It really is amazing to what these people prove to us over and over again that disability is a relative term.

My school teachers...

So I got to thinking bout my school days recently and it saddened me that I was starting to forget a few teachers who had shaped my life, I have already forgotten nearly half the classmates... though its not my fault. Some people just don't want to join facebook, then how can you find them in this big world. Even if I do find them, there is not much to talk beyond the 'where are you & what are you doing' phrases. But the teachers are another matter, they deserve to be remembered for moulding us. I gotta hand it to the convent school I studied in, they really knew how to select their educators... all the teachers I had shared a genuine passion for teaching and above that they had strong moral values and faith which invariably shaped our lives. To them being a good person was what mattered the most and they made sure we grasped this knowledge, it also helped that I had staunch catholic parents who cemented this view. Anyway, I just wanted to jot down stuff bout my teacher...

And nobody was named Fred....

There was a Hugo and a Rosie... but no Fred. Oh well, it's over... that is more than enough. So finally the Harry Potter series has come to an end. And I did read all the books... but somehwere between the third and the fourth book, all the success went to her (Rowling's) head and she started churning out lousy sequels. I mean the first book was really nice, stuck to important stuff... and did not ramble on unnecessarily. I liked the third book the best, cause of Sirius... I thought he was the most amazing character, he was portrayed as this handsome reckless and brave guy, rugged looking but great looking, kinda like Aragon in the movie, "Lord of the rings" or Oded Fehr in "The Mummy Series". So it was only natural that I stopped watching the Harry potter movies, after I saw who they had cast to play the role of Sirius Black, some demented looking guy. Just look at the pictures!!! Anyway, this last book was just too much... there was too much of everyt...
