A Few Churches at the tip of the Indian Peninsular...

I like visiting churches and chapels, the peace and calm that emanates from them provides an opportunity to contemplate life, death and everything in between. During my trips here and there, whenever I came across churches, I always stopped for a short visit. I guess this fascination with churches harks back to my childhood in a convent school; the convent attached to my school had this beautiful chapel, and I was enamoured by it. It was so quiet and peaceful in there, it was almost like being transported to another dimension. Back then I never knew He used to listen, I used to pray because we were brought up to pray for anything and everything. So my prayers were usually about tests and to make teachers (and a couple of classmates) disappear. Used to pray for heavy rains too, for the school to declare a holiday... I can still see the gushing stream of rain water tumbling and overflowing down the steps of the main assembly ground. I remember being riveted by that sight, it was so beautiful, the whole getting drenched in the rain part was pretty awesome too. Okay, before I digress any further... Here's the new church in my colony, seen from a distance... it's pretty impressive up front.
But needlessly gilded and elaborately decorated inside...
This is another church nearby, couldn't enter it was locked...
This is another quaint chapel that could almost pass for a house...
Inside the chapel; Latin masses are held here every Sunday...
Another church we saw on the way back from Chalakudy...
This is St. George Church in Aluva, near Chalakudy...
Inside St. George Church....

Christ the King church...
The massive cross outside...
I forget what this church is called...
the side entrance...
The steeples...
Right opposite the above church of many steeples we saw these steps leading upwards...
To the chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary...
Inside the Rosary chapel...
The Rosary chapel, built on a small hill...
St. Antony's church... a lovely and well constructed church.
This is the Mother Mary statue just outside the church, beneath the main entrance. Being a coastal region, it's not unusual to find sea imagery incorporated into the church's decor. This explains why Mother Mary is seen standing inside a sea shell. I've seen one church long back where wave patterns were inscribed on walls... depicting the movement of the ocean.

Nice Ad....

Wouldn't you say so... Nam and me were in this huge clothing store and we were making fun of all the models on display (there was one of hrithik in which he looked kinda gayish) when we came across this one. Seriously, dark people are more better looking....

I hope the world doesn't end in 2012, I have a whole lot of books to read...

I heard bout Flipkart.com from Anju and that site has changed my life. All the books that I have been searching for since centuries, are now sitting prettily on my book shelf. Landmark is a thing of the past now... in fact Landmark is not what it used to be anymore, they do not seem to have stock on most of the good books. So I am deliriously thankful to the creators of flipkart, I seriously love you guys... continue with your fabulous work. Talking of books, here are a few people who have enriched my life with their recommendations of the written word... My brother Manoj for buying the ' The Partner ' by John Grisham . Now I hadn't heard of Grisham before so the book was just lying there at home. One day I got bored and picked it up, that was the start of my love affair with Grisham and legal thrillers in general. This was the first John Grisham book I read and it was in a word mindblowing. I couldn't set the book down, my heart was racing away with Patrick Laniga...

And nobody was named Fred....

There was a Hugo and a Rosie... but no Fred. Oh well, it's over... that is more than enough. So finally the Harry Potter series has come to an end. And I did read all the books... but somehwere between the third and the fourth book, all the success went to her (Rowling's) head and she started churning out lousy sequels. I mean the first book was really nice, stuck to important stuff... and did not ramble on unnecessarily. I liked the third book the best, cause of Sirius... I thought he was the most amazing character, he was portrayed as this handsome reckless and brave guy, rugged looking but great looking, kinda like Aragon in the movie, "Lord of the rings" or Oded Fehr in "The Mummy Series". So it was only natural that I stopped watching the Harry potter movies, after I saw who they had cast to play the role of Sirius Black, some demented looking guy. Just look at the pictures!!! Anyway, this last book was just too much... there was too much of everyt...
