Never gave up

You never gave up on me, she said, amazed.
I couldn't, he replied, I could see that
You were in the process of adapting
Yourself to a mundane, normal life,
Devoid of any passion, and I
Couldn't let that happen.

Why, she asked, more amazed than before.
'Cause you're my love, he replied softly.

Sarangi in Chennai - A Review

So when my sister was in town we visited Sarangi, the Kanjivaram sari store located at Sterling Avenue, Nungambakkam. Kept seeing their pretty ads in the paper, each day their ad would display a beautiful sari with a flourish.

See what I mean... about the ads, nicely done. So we decided to check them out... and we were pleasantly surprised. This isn't your ordinary shop, it's a tastefully decorated house that has sari's in various hues draped all over the place. And the collection they have is pretty good, of course it's mostly for grand occasions... and the prices go up as you move from room to room.   Sari's displayed in a room... hanging over the door and the curtain rod. One of the pretty rooms...  A pretty mirror... and my sister reflected in it. A row of mirrors... to check out yourself after trying out a sari. The place has loads of natural lighting... I love that about any place.  Indian art... poor clarity, cause of all the reflection. A few lavish weddin…

Movie time...

There are some movies that forever get etched into your being, they somehow end up shaping you by influencing you. I had two movies like that... The Sound of Music and You've Got Mail. I've seen The Sound of Music more times than I can remember. Ever since I first saw that movie as a kid, I've been hooked to it. Loved everything about it, the songs, the dances (specifically the Austrian Folk dance, the Laender), the dresses, the scenery, Captain Von Trapp and Maria. In fact my love for wedding gowns stemmed from watching Maria on her wedding day with that long flowing trail... made a vow to wear one on my wedding too. I was even fascinated with Liesl (Charmian Carr) the eldest daughter in her pink ruffled dress singing I am 16, she looked so beautiful and grown up... I remember thinking 16 is so far away and wanting to grow up soon to be 16 like her. Even now when life tends to get a little bit rough, just singing 'I have confidence in me' or 'These are a few …

Santhi Nilayam, School for the Mentally Challenged...

After a long long time, I visited the special school I used to work in, and the kids have all grown up...tiny tots now taller than me and sprouting facial hair!!! I was flummoxed... gosh, time changes everyone and everything. Wonder what changes they saw in me... anyway, I was just happy to be backthere. Went early to catch sight of that yellow school bus turning the corner and to watch all the kids tumbling out. While I was working there, that yellow bus turning the corner always marked the start of an exciting day. Right from the moment the kids hit the ground, the fun starts... that place will always be shrouded in hues of warm sunshine in my memory, it is a great place to be.  On the way to school, came across a few students... The special school, Santhi Nilayam (means Abode of Peace)  Great place...  The school bus and the kids... The assembly itself is heartwarming, a kid recites the prayers and the others repeat after him, in their characteristic sounds and half utterances.  T…
