Lyon and Dumplings

Woke up in Lyon  and immediately went to look out the window,
I was somehow fascinated to be living in this old part of town where there are hardly any vehicles, just foot traffic.
Road trip companions smiling from our airbnb apartment window. We got ready, took a few pictures...
Then crossed the river SaĂ´ne, and walked to the other side of Lyon. Lyon, the city is nestled at the junction of the RhĂ´ne and SaĂ´ne rivers.
And that is the Notre Dame church on the hill.... the steps to which are right outside our apartment door.
Searching for something to eat we end up at this nice bakery...
where there is so much to choose from.
Desserts
My sister gets a chicken burger...
Jude, some rather nice chicken sandwich...
And I pick up two quiches, one was a ham and cheese quiche and the other a spinach and salmon one. The ham and cheese was quite good, the salmon wasn't that great so ate half and fed the rest to the pigeons on our walk back to the apartment.
Some pretty statue and fountains...
Some king on his horse...
Some other elaborate fountain, so while we were walking here we came across a wedding gown shop and me and Nam stopped to stare at the beautiful gowns on display and this was the conversation that ensued...
Me: I want to dye.
Nam: No one's stopping you. There are many convenient locations here.
Me: I'm serious about dyeing, search for a place where it can be done.
Nam: There are two rivers here, you can jump into any of them.
Me: What if I float....
Nam: Then it would be a tragedy.
This is more or less the conversation that occurs every time the topic of wedding gown comes up, I've been searching for a place to dye my wedding gown and since she's the stylish one in the family, I keep telling her to find one for me... but she always answers like this until we crack ourselves up laughing.
A nice view of the bridge...
Walking back to the old town, you see the notre dame church on the hill and the Eiffel tower in the distance.. nah, that's not the Eiffel tower, I'm kidding.
Okay, one last view from the window...
One last look at the apartment in Lyon before we vacate it... we never got to meet the owners of this place. They gave us detailed instructions to find the key and where to keep it after we check out, everything was effortlessly done through emails, it was pretty cool.
Love will find you. Had to take a picture of this pretty leaf on the floor, the universe always speaks to us in subtle yet poignant ways.
The other main church in Lyon is, John the Baptist church, which is right in the heart of Vieux Lyon. So after we check out, we walk to the parking lot, keep our luggage in the car and walk back to...
This church
Jude, drawing...
Nam picked up this hazelnut macaroon and it was freaking awesome.
Some other Lyonnaise sweet... this wasn't that great.
We then went to a few shops that sell paintings, I didn't find anything I liked. But this ballerina picture hanging behind me is an Edgar Degas painting I bought back in 2013 when we had visited Lyon for the first time and came across some Turkish angels.
It was a nice sunny day to explore the old town and take shadow selfies.
The stone that glinted...
Stopped at a crepe place for lunch...
Saw something about walnuts in the menu and ordered that crepe. When it arrived, I was searching for walnuts and didn't find any, but there was this funny looking white-ish fleshy stuff inside, so after googling it, we discovered that I had ordered the walnuts of Saint-Jacques which is a type of seafood, generally known as scallops.
It was a nice lazy afternoon, so took out this pretty notebook to draw...
This little angel hovering over my sister as she ate her crepe. We then drove to Geneva which is about an hour and twenty minutes from Lyon.
We reach Geneva around 6:45 pm and after dumping clothes in the machine to wash, we go out to Le ThĂ©  for dinner. This small little Chinese place serves mainly dumplings and a variety of teas.
This is their home made iced tea
The lighting is very dim inside this restaurant, but the decor is amazing.. little clay pots placed everywhere and a tiny seating area, which is quite cramped, but makes the whole atmosphere inside cozy. This was some rice wine we had, sake.
Some of the dumplings...
More dumplings...
And more...
Needless to say, they were all really really good.
We then walked to Cafe Remor for dessert...
This is also a nice cozy cafe...
A foggy mirror near our seats called for a selfie.
This was some apple tart with ice cream...
Espresso with tiny desserts...
And this was the best of the lot, a cognac infused Crème brĂ»lĂ©e... every bite was marvellous.

Hehe... yeah, with pictures. I figured when I'm sixty and going through my blog, it has to be succinct and bring back the memories.

Nice Ad....

Wouldn't you say so... Nam and me were in this huge clothing store and we were making fun of all the models on display (there was one of hrithik in which he looked kinda gayish) when we came across this one. Seriously, dark people are more better looking....

Tawusi Melek: The Peacock Angel

The Last Girl (2017) by a Yezidi survivor, Nadia Murad, is filled with the bone-chilling sort of evil that the ISIS is synonymous with. Nadia poignantly captures the plight of her Yazidi village, Kocho, as the threat of ISIS looms large in the distance before becoming a reality. As with the Holocaust, no one really anticipates the amount or intensity of evil that could reside in the indoctrinated hearts of men. Otherwise, nobody would willingly stay back in their towns or villages waiting for the genocide of their race. One of Nadia’s brother’s, Hezni, did try to go Germany, by crossing the northern Iraqi border on foot into Turkey, from where they (the brother and a few others) made their way to Istanbul, then paid a smuggler to take them into Greece. But they were discovered and had to spend a horrible time in prison. So, the fact is people did try to leave, but like Nadia explains, it isn’t easy to leave the only place one has ever known. I still think that being forced to

A tribute to the crazy bunch....

Here are a few picutres that won't find a place in the wedding album... but they were equally (some of them, even more) memorable. Everybody loves sunoj.... I was so happy to see them all...... (first time they were coming to my new place) Sunoj again.... hanging out with this guy is like shopping, ice cream, chocolates... etc. You can't get enough of them. The crazy cousins gave us a very interesting gift... this gift will be with us for six months then it will start its cycle of educating the owners. Though I doubt my cousins need much education in that department. It was fun opening the book and Jardin being the smart guy wanted somethin read from page 69. It was so cute the way Sunoj quickly picked up "The Magic Faraway Tree Series" from the corner and gave me to hold up when Robert uncle walked into the room (turns out he was the one who bought the book). I still remember Robert uncle laughing his head off.... good times. This wa
